First and Foremost, IC =/= OOC! Callum can be really cold and standoffish, especially at first, but I promise this isn't personal! I'm actually really self-conscious about him coming off as too much of an asshole at times so I may apologize for this. I promise I'm not mean...!
Speaking of IC =/= OOC, if there are any uh... prejudiced ways that your character may act IC, please clear it with me beforehand. Conflict is fun, but I don't want to be hit with a Fantasy Racism (tm) or a Fantasy Ableism (tm) unprompted, especially given Callum's character. Ideally this won't happen at all, but things happen I guess.
I won't tolerate any kind of bigoted behavior OOC (homophobia /transphobia/ racism /ableism /etc). I am a member of the LGBTQ+ community, biracial, and disabled so I would like to curate my space to be safe for both myself and others. ♡
I am in my mid-20s, and I will often post and/or joke about NSFW content, so please don't interact with me if you're under 18. I generally only interact with people that are 20+ though!
Text / One-liners / Prose / Multipara are all OK!! Please don't feel the need to match length if I go crazy with it.
Callum is mainly shipped with Soren Alfrid and Haurchefant (while he is Not alive in his canon), but he is multiship! All alternate ships are in alternate universes (duh). I have quite a few with him already, and if it works it works. Don't be afraid to reach out!
Given Callum's character and personality, he might touch on some darker topics. I will try and tag everything accordingly if I am able to! Don't be afraid to express what you're comfortable and not comfortable with.
ERP is reserved for my partner + close friends only. It's more than likely a no unless I say otherwise. If you've known me for a long-ass time, then sure. NSFW jokes / HCs about ships are fine for anyone.
No metagaming or godmodding. Consent in RP regarding physical contact / fighting is pretty important to me, so I will generally ask permission OOC before Callum does anything -- preferably, I would like it if you did the same for me!
Subject to be updated whenever I think of anything / is deemed necessary.
Thanks for reading! Let's have fun!
Hi there! I'm Ilan! I've been rping for... pretty much the entirety of my life (MSN RP days of 2007 hit hard), and I've been playing FFXIV since May of 2020! I love rping but I am very very very shy so if you are ever interested in plotting/HC/RP, please don't hesitate to send an @ or DM my way!I am taken IRL by the lovely @vieraways , and you will often see Soren around when I'm playing as we often play together !Please keep in mind that my OCs stick very close to in-game lore and worldbuilding! Though, I still love interacting with plots and OCs that stray from the original lore. :) My OCs may not be familiar with modern technology, however.

PERSONALITY. DETERMINED | INTROVERTED | STERN | HARDWORKING | VOLATILEWith a persistent, deep-seated frown on his face, Callum is not the most approachable person. A driven individual, he puts his work before pretty much everything, not leaving time for much else. He keeps mostly to himself, with his face often buried in a stack of paperwork or a book. He uses this to his advantage in social situations, choosing to work rather than talk when he isn't in the mood. He keeps his walls up, and it takes time for those interested enough in him to chip away at them. He speaks bluntly, keeping his words and tone short. Indulging in his vices a little too often can make things better or worse, depending on the situation.Anger is the emotion that is easiest for him to process due to various factors. Anger fuels spite; spite fuels determination. Through anger, he pushes through life's changes. For those that know him, his anger issues are nothing new — it's not uncommon to witness him instigate an argument or explode. Though, over the years, he has practiced self-control. With thinly veiled restraint, he's made it easier for a ticking bomb like himself to navigate everyday interactions. If you upset him, however, he relies on fight or flight. This can result in swearing, fighting, or pointing a weapon at you if things go far enough.Anger aside, Callum is loyal to those he holds close to him. He is a family-oriented person, and those that he considers family — such as his squadron, relatives, and other close individuals — know a lighter side of him. His smile is lax, often chatting and joking up a storm. He can be a tease at times, playfully flirting and antagonizing those he takes an interest in. He's got a competitive spirit, and he'll never turn down a challenge.During rare respites from his paperwork, he indulges himself in his hobbies and other pasttimes. He loves weaponsmithing and Triple Triad. In addition, he's committed himself to various philanthropic organizations — particularly pertaining to helping children in need and rebuilding from war efforts.
NO, I NEED TO HIT THE BOTTOM.
about callum's health.
SINCE HIS EIGHTEENTH SUMMER, BALANCING HIS HEALTH HAS BEEN AN UPHILL BATTLE. Due to recessive genes and a genetic defect, Callum deals with a variety of health issues. He was born with albinism, has affected him in the following ways:- Worsened eyesight over time.
- Inability to handle direct sunlight, heat over long periods of time.
- Nystagmus (foggy, shaky vision; identified by small, involuntary movements of the eyes).Additionally, he was born with mild, Osteogenesis Imperfecta. These symptoms, however, did not manifest until later in life for him. Because of this, he has the following:- A small stature.
- Fragile bones that fracture and break easily.
- A bluish tint in the corners of his eyes.
- Inconsistent, weak muscle strength.
- Slightly underdeveloped lungs, resulting in a shortness of breath and other breathing problems.
- Hearing loss over time.Other comorbidities and symptoms have also developed over time, including the following:-Tachycardia (a heartbeat of 100bpm or more)
- Hypotension (low blood pressure), often resulting in fainting spells and lightheadedness.
- Heavy bleeding (frequent nosebleeds or accumulation of blood in the lungs).
HIS FLAREUPS ARE HEAVILY INFLUENCED BY HIS EMOTIONS AND STRENUOUS PHYSICAL ACTIVITY — if he gets too worked up too quickly, he will often remove himself from the situation to rein himself in. Though, chronic stress, insomnia, the heat, and using magic tends to exacerbate his symptoms as well. BY NO MEANS DOES THIS MAKE HIM HELPLESS, HOWEVER. Callum has found his own ways to thrive. Using his skills as a smith, he makes reinforced armor to soften the recoil of his blows and keep his hands in-tact. Additionally, he has learned sign language for situations that make hearing difficult.Callum has a difficult relationship with his health. He has accepted it, yet — at least, for the time being — rejects treatment. This is partially due to the complications of different illnesses mingling together, and partially out of stubbornness. Thus, he's made peace with his shortened lifespan and the downspiral that comes with it.If you're familiar with him or his squadron, it's not really a secret. He's fairly open about his health and the fact that he may not be around long. His deep-seated frustrations about his lack of time and feelings of unfulfillment — ones from his younger years that he has tried his absolute hardest to put past him — are something he keeps more heavily guarded. These are feelings that he rarely opens up about, and require a certain level of closeness. Good luck.

Till Sea Swallows All.
history.
LORE : early years .
The first son of Liam Glainne and Liu Xiuhua, second generation Ishgardian immigrants from Limsa Lominsa and Yanxia respectively. With the controversy and difficulties surrounding a union between a Midlander and a Keeper of the Moon in Ishgardian society, the family left for Limsa Lominsa when Callum was only a year old to work in Limsa Lominsa’s Blacksmith’s Guild. Having spent nearly the entirety of his life in the city, Callum considers himself to be a native Lominsan, rather than acknowledging his Ishgardian homeland.Since he was born, Callum has always stood out as slightly different. As a result of recessive genes, he was born with albinism, his white hair and pale complexion a stark difference from those of his parents. Additionally, he was always a bit smaller than the others -- perhaps, even slightly weaker. His ears were small and underdeveloped, and his tail grew to only a stub’s length. However, this did nothing to change his parents’ unconditional love and their desire to set him up for success. His parents made sure to train him in both combat and smithing, placing a longsword and a cross peen hammer in his hands as soon as he could hold them properly. The boy, seemingly an eternal spitfire that could never be extinguished, handled everything with stride. He could stand his own well enough against an opponent if need be, and took great interest in tinkering and smithing weapons.
Smug and prideful, Callum grew up with an unbeatable confidence. He would thrive in whatever endeavors he sought out. Eventually, the boy began dreaming of setting out from Limsa Lominsa on his own to travel the world as an adventurer.Sometime during his 18th year, Callum’s strength began to falter. It became unreliable; sometimes it became too difficult to stand on his own two feet. Eventually, picking up and holding his beloved longsword with the right posture became a feat of its own. His lungs started to give out too soon, and his heart began to beat much faster than it should. A simple scuffle could lead to blood and fractured bones.Ultimately, it was decided that the boy could no longer fight or pursue his dreams of joining the adventurers that passed through Limsa Lominsa on the daily. However — Callum, as stubborn as he is — refused to accept that. Fueled by spite and an intense desire to prove everyone wrong, he abruptly and wordlessly ran off to find something that could fulfill his desire to find his purpose in life. For around a year, he wandered around La Noscea and studied healing magic alongside the Scholars of Limsa Lominsa. Shunning most, he relied mostly on his faerie for companionship. As time passed, however, he realized that using magic did more harm to his body than it was worth after nearly killing himself from overexertion. Feeling defeated, he gave up and returned to Limsa Lominsa to figure out what to do next.

LORE : prior to the calamity .
Desperate to find a purpose for himself, he once again tried to pivot in a different direction. He learned to fight with his fists rather than relying on a weapon. While it wasn’t the most wise decision for his fragile stature, he took a liking to the thrill of up-close combat. Still seeking adventure and a place to belong, he decided to go through the recruitment process of joining the Grand Companies. With Limsa Lominsa being his home and his admiration of the Admiral’s way of thinking as factors, he decided to enlist in the Maelstrom after earning Lieutenant Guincum’s approval through completing various tasks.Callum was initially recruited with his childhood friend, Edan. For a time, the two of them were involved romantically — though Callum struggled to reciprocate Edan's strong feelings. Not long afterwards, however, Edan grew tired of the Maelstrom life and yearned to take to the seas as a pirate. Callum, thinking that it was a foolish idea, had no problems making his opinion known.Early in their careers, they were sent on a mission to Pharos Sirius to investigate the siren that had been luring their men towards the lighthouse. This mission, where he was surrounded by his zombified peers, left Callum disturbed and adamant on his hatred of both the pirate life and seafaring.
Edan, however, was still unswayed. Edan decided to leave the Maelstrom, and the two of them had an ugly fight over that choice. Callum, deciding he didn't want to stand behind Edan who didn't seem to care about walking in the path of the horrors they just witnessed at the Lighthouse, broke things off and cut contact.During his time in the Maelstrom’s provisional recruitment program, he was usually tasked with whatever busywork could be pushed onto him -- silencing slanderous reporters, investigating Garlean strongholds, acquiring equipment, and assisting with any preparations necessary in the days prior to the Battle of Carteneau. Driven to succeed and leave a good impression on those who put their trust into him, he worked himself to the bone to be recognized and officially sworn in.When Dalamud fell, Callum had just been enlisted as a Private Third Class. While the Admiral brought her best in the Foreign Levy to fight at Carteneau, Callum stayed behind in Limsa Lominsa to aid the city and its surrounding settlements in the wake of the Seventh Umbral Calamity. Over the next few years, he clawed his way through the ranks, reaching the rank of Storm Sergeant First Class by Year Five of the Seventh Umbral Era.

history.
LORE : a realm reborn .
With five years of dedication under his belt, Callum was soon trusted with affairs outside of Vylbrand. At the request of his superiors, he would often find himself traveling short-term to the Coerthan Highlands in response to Ishgard’s calls for foreign aid. He looked forward to these calls, exhilarated by the idea of venturing into unfamiliar lands. As part of these ventures, he had to lead missions in the Dzemael Darkhold and Aurum Vale, which is just as misery-inducing as one would expect. It was worth it, however, as coming out successfully meant higher respects from those above him.
As word of his growing reputation in the Maelstrom and his time spent in Coerthas spread around, Callum and R'ashaht Rhiki received a peculiar letter penned by his father. Formerly employed under House Fortemps prior to moving to Limsa Lominsa, he and Liu Xiuhua were only allowed to leave Ishgard due to Edmont using his influence to pull some strings. Wanting to finally return the favor, he expressed his wishes for Callum to assist with House Fortemps’ call for aid in his stead…

Till Sea Swallows All.
history.
LORE : heavensward .
Freshly promoted to Second Lieutenant, he was assigned to lead the newly-formed 8th Squadron of the Foreign Levy. With the Eorzean Alliance and Ishgard in talks of a truce, the 8th’s first assignment was to be stationed at Camp Dragonhead. As a squadron, they were tasked with padding their frontlines, defending the fort and its surrounding areas from the threat of heretics and Dravanians, and safely escorting merchants and travelers to and from Ishgard.Callum quickly realized that it was near impossible to fight dragons barehanded. He eventually found himself at the doorstep of the Skysteel Manufactory, as House Fortemps was rather close to the Manufactory’s overseer, House Haillenarte. Since his parents were originally working-class Ishgardians, he found that their ideals were more closely aligned than he expected. Even if they didn’t give him the best first impression, the small group inevitably gave him some of his closest companions. He grew especially close to Rostnsthal, given their shared connection to Limsa Lominsa. He remembered hearing whispers of Sthalmann Sthalmannsyn and his underhanded attempts to claim the Admiral’s seat as his own. While he was initially wary of his new mentor, he learned to see past it after taking Rostnshal’s remorse and their similarities into account.Working and cooperating with Ishgardians proper proved to be a difficult task for Callum. Even with his Ishgardian birth and his good standing with the noble houses due to his connections to House Fortemps, there was a very severe culture clash that he struggled with. He often found the attitudes of Ishgardian nobles too stuffy for his liking, and the Ishgardians had preconceived assumptions of Lominsans in return. Being a “half-breed” didn’t exactly help things, either. It became increasingly obvious as to why his parents left Ishgard in the first place. One man Callum did get along with, however, was the Knight Commander of Camp Dragonhead -- Haurchefant Greystone. With their fathers being close, as well as with the two of them being of similar rank, the two of them became fast friends. The pair worked closely while he was stationed there, often talking late into the night over maps and tactics. They spoke of both silly and sentimental things, as well as the battles they fought together. They both shared a love for adventure, and they exchanged stories of their respective homelands.
For the year that the two of them had worked together, Callum perhaps began to feel something. However, those feelings remained unspoken.
While escorting some merchants to Ishgard, Callum’s group was attacked by a wyvern. In this altercation, he managed to barely escape with his life after attempting to push one of his men -- Morel -- out of the way. He received a rather nasty gash across his right side, spanning from his upper thigh to just beneath his ribcage and lost a concerning amount of blood. Morel did not survive.Being retrieved by Haurchefant upon hearing the squadron's desperate cries for aid, he was promptly placed on three month's bedrest in Camp Dragonhead’s infirmary to recover -- much to his disdain. As a compromise, since Callum was insistent on not sitting idly, he took charge of creating and double checking the fort’s patrol routes and combat formations. This is where he realized that he took a liking to creating these plans, and he proved himself to be a skilled tactician.Additionally, he promised Haurchefant that, in the unlikely case that he needed saving, Callum would return the favor.Callum was at his side when Haurchefant met his end at The Vault. Desperate to try and save his friend like he promised, he pulled his long-forgotten Codex from his satchel and made a last-ditch effort to mend the deep wound in Haurchefant’s chest. He completely disregarded his own body’s limitations, exerting every ounce of energy he had to try and save him. However, it wasn’t enough, and he watched his closest friend die before him. The last thing he remembers before blacking out from overexertion is seeing the light leave the elezen’s eyes. The events of The Vault left him in a deep state of shock. Once again left to recover in Camp Dragonhead’s infirmary, he was affected so deeply that he became an emotionless husk of his former self -- conscious, but not responding to any external stimuli. He was deemed unfit to remain in Coerthas, and he and his squadron returned to Limsa Lominsa once he recovered enough to make the trip.It would take time to heal those wounds, supposedly. He wasn’t sure that he would ever move on.

Till Sea Swallows All.
history.
LORE : present .
Nowadays, he’s become more reclusive than he was in his days as a petty officer. Reporting directly to R'ashaht Rhiki (and -- on rare occasions -- the Admiral, herself), Callum serves as Captain and commander of The Maelstrom's 8th Squadron in The Foreign Levy. With the Levy composed exclusively of land-based infantry, his duties take him and his unit everywhere except the sea. Most of his days are spent at Maelstrom Command. A majority of his work is administrative, leaving him with an endlessly growing pile of paperwork and reports. In addition, he is responsible for supervising his squadron in their training and duties. This primarily means tactics and combat training -- though, during slow periods -- this can extend to helping out in other ways, such as supply and provision requests, assisting in monitoring customs for contraband, and overseeing day-to-day operations at Wolve's Den Pier. Despite being a far cry from his dreams of thrill and adventure from his youth, he has found satisfaction in training adventurers as a leader and a tactician. Aside from his squadron and a few close individuals, he keeps most at a distance.Occasionally, he will be sent outside of Limsa Lominsa -- whether it be to Limsa's outside settlements or foreign nations-- at the request of his superiors. During these trips, his unit will often serve as foreign aid. Other times, he will be sent alone to monitor individuals of interest. Though, following the events of the Dragonsong War, he is now incredibly reluctant to play diplomat and foreign emissary. He speaks not of travel or adventures, and -- if at all possible -- will stay within the city limits of Limsa Lominsa.
He seems incredibly busy with all of the tasks he has assigned. However, a lot of these jobs are tasks that he has volunteered to undertake, himself. With his face always buried in a pile of paperwork and dark circles under his eyes from often staying up for days on end, nobody is entirely sure about why he insists on overworking himself to such an extent.Sometimes, he’s found frequenting bars and taverns to get a change of pace. He always brings his work along with him, chipping away at that tower of reports that never seems to get smaller throughout the night. There’s an additional cocktail of terrible behaviors he uses to try and cope with his past, but -- for now -- he’s doing okay (at least, in his own opinion). Who knows what others will drag him into, however…?

GOTTA GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS.
TIL SEA SWALLOWS ALL.
— Soldiers and Fellow Lominsans.
As a commissioned officer in the Maelstrom and the commander of the 8th Foreign Levy, it's easier for him to talk to you if you're sworn under the same flag. Whether it be for business or casual chit-chat, he'll never turn an ear away from a fellow Lominsan or Storm soldier.Over-formality and stressing over titles, however, is not his thing. Speak freely and normally with him, and you'll prevent the situation from being more awkward than it could be.PAPER SKIN AND GLASS BONES.
— The fellow fragile and those who want a fight.
The man's poor condition isn't a secret; it's something he's rather open about. For those with aethersight, his aether is incredibly weak. He finds solidarity in those who fight to survive in a world built to shatter you, and bloodlust for those who try to belittle him for his size and strength. If you push him too hard, you might be in for a fight.COME CLOSER. I'VE GOT THE GOODS.
— Fellow smithing enthusiasts.
Looking for a weapon? Have an interest in crafting your own? Callum's your guy. Smithing is something that runs in his family, and he takes great pride in his work. Whether it be weapons or armor, Callum can go in-depth about the process of creating anything your mind can imagine.ISHGARDIAN BIRTH, NOT SO MUCH ISHGARDIAN PRIDE.
— Ishgardians and Machinists.
Ishgardian society has not been kind to his family, for one reason or another. Having moved to Limsa Lominsa only a year after being born, he doesn't have much connection to his homeland. Though, his time spent in Camp Dragonhead and Ishgard during the Dragonsong War taught him quite a bit. He still worships Halone, and his father's connections to House Fortemps have left him in relatively good standing despite everything. On occasion, he will return on Maelstrom business. It's a deep-seated secret of his, but he is quite a fan of Stephanivien's ideals, and he dreams of a more equal playing ground for Ishgardians, so that they may not feel compelled to leave like his family did. If you try and talk to him about this, be ready for some heavy opinions.SHIELDS HELD HIGH.
— Those who miss Haurchefant.
A conversation that he struggles with every time. Haurchefant, despite his status as an outcast and a bastard, was loved by many. If you spent time in Camp Dragonhead, you've more than likely crossed paths with him at some point. Additionally, if you were there for the attack on the Vault, you more than likely saw Callum a bloody mess as he used whatever magic he could to try and save his friend. He doesn't want to talk about it. Reminiscing hurts, even after all these years.

TAKE YOU
WITH ME.

Yehn
Amariyo
Best Friend.
Chief Storm Sergeant of the 8th Foreign Levy, and Callum's second in command. She has been working with Callum the longest out of all of his squadron members, and is the person that Callum is closest with. She's very loud and proud about this fact. The two talk to each other about everything, and she can usually be found by his side throughout the day. She loves to hear about the latest news regarding his friends, and she wants to be introduced to them! Specifically the lesbian ones.Despite her silly and upbeat personality, she is a capable soldier that Callum trusts more than anyone. She has been trusted with handling his final affairs.
Soren
Alfrid
It's complicated.
A fellow member of the Maelstrom that he met at Hullbreaker Isle. The two of them are in a complicated, 'will they, won't they' relationship that has spanned for the last three years or so. Callum tried ghosting him after one date, but he can't seem to shake the shetona off.Despite Callum's irritation at how Soren often gets into his business, he finds it harder to imagine life without him day by day. If anything, he's at least fun to spar with. For his own reasons, he tries to keep him at an arm's length. Probably because he cares too much; more than he said he would ever care for someone else again. Deep down, he is deathly afraid of losing him.

Edan
Mac Aodha
Estranged.
A childhood friend and ex-boyfriend. While Edan was head-over-heels for him, Callum could never quite feel the same way for him, no matter how hard he tried. Previously a Storm Private, he found himself restricted and unhappy in the Maelstrom. He left to become a pirate of the Fickle Folly following a traumatizing expedition to Pharos Sirius. Callum, thinking this was a stupid idea, got into a brutal argument over it and ended up breaking things off.Callum is over it; Edan is not. He's always somewhere nearby.
Caspian
Sparrow
Nemesis.
Callum cannot stand this man. Caspian is everything that Callum loathes; the very lifestyle that he spurns. This pirate captain always finds a way to seek him out and instigate another argument, and Callum cannot help but argue back. Every time these two are in the same room, it is a disaster. With enough liquor in him, however, this man is somewhat tolerable for him. It's because of this that Caspian has managed to drag Callum's deepest, darkest secret out of him. Because of that, Caspian is probably going to be stuck with him until the day one of them dies.
Lucien
Lyon
Acquaintance.
A Temple Knight that Callum met during his most recent post at Camp Dragonhead. For a short time, they worked together while investigating a surge of blasphemies in Ishgard.Callum greatly dislikes his naivete, especially surrounding the Dragonsong War. Regardless, he's not the worst to be around. Lucien has seen him at his most violent.
Lysander
Arthemis
Acquaintance(?)
A drinking buddy that he unfortunately keeps running into. He considers their relationship to be rocky, begrudging one due to their clashing personalities, as well as the fact that Lysander tends to test Callum's limits with his teasing. After a recent skirmish, he doesn't consider the two of them to be on good terms. He finds it difficult to be civil around Lysander nowdays.
Yul
Geneq
Acquaintance.
Another drinking buddy, as well as an adventurer who he'll run into around Limsa Lominsa on occasion. He hasn't pried too much into Yul's life, but he's found a solidarity in the Au ra through the shared experience of commanding a squadron. He likes to give him advice in that regard.

Rostnsthal
Mentor.
He had heard of Sthalmann Sthalmannsyn when he was merely a recruit — his desires to take the Admiral's seat, and the lengths he went to try and secure it. What he didn't expect, however, was to see the man in Ishgard, under the employ of the Skysteel Manufactory. While he was initially wary of the ex-Commodore, the two of them found a friendship in their similarities. Two men with a tendency to run away, they keep each other in check and accountable.
...

Merlwyb
Bloefhiswyn
The Boss.
The Admiral is someone that Callum both deeply admires and deeply fears. Her ideologies surrounding defying the odds, as well as her catchphrase 'Impossible is a term coined by the weak', gave Callum the push towards enlisting into the Maelstrom when the Grand Companies were beginning to reform. While Callum doesn't report directly to Merlwyb, the two of them have worked closely for the better part of five years. Serving as a representative of the Maelstrom and the Eorzean Alliance during his post in Camp Dragonhead, she is well aware of his abilities as a diplomat and a leader. He is aware of her pirating past, but says nothing about it.She makes an effort to push him outside of his comfort zone to prevent him from losing those capabilities. Despite his wishes to stay in Limsa Lominsa, she will send him overseas on occasion — much to his dismay. However, he knows better than to defy her.

Haurchefant
Greystone
Old friend.
Brought together by the previous business relationship between their fathers and the Dragonsong War, Callum spent about a year in Camp Dragonhead on Maelstrom business while Ishgard and the Eorzean Alliance were in talks of joining forces. The two of them were rather close and had a lot in common.Callum loved him deeply, but he could never bring himself to tell the elezen how he felt.He did his best to save him, but not even that was enough to mend that wound. The same wound exists on his heart, still — feeling ever haunted. He wonders if Haurchefant would feel disappointed in him for giving up on his dreams of adventuring, or if he would be happy that he found happiness in his own way.
